JOB DESCRIPTION:
Data Centre Operations Technician LI is responsible for maintaining the installed server and network devices, troubleshooting, and repairing servers with hardware and network problems. The Technician works with minimal supervision in a high stress environment. The technician is responsible for building custom ordered servers.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Key Accountabilities
" Monitor and troubleshoot server equipment installed in the production environment, ensuring a fast reaction to incoming 'alerts' to maximise customer uptime.
" Maintain the live production environment, ensuring that all areas within the Data Centre Operations' areas of responsibility are clean and tidy at all times.
" Communicate with customers and other Rackers via the telephone, email, and the CORE ticketing system ensuring all communications are courteous and professional at all times.
" Build, upgrade and configure custom ordered servers spanning several different platforms and configurations.
" Perform upgrades and maintenances on customer equipment at pre-scheduled times.
" Ensuring all process and 'quality assurance' documentation is completed correctly at all times and filed according and in a timely manner.
" Responsible for adhering to company security policies and procedure as directed
Key Performance Indicators
" Ensure that the Rackspace hardware replacement SLA's are adhered to in the event of a hardware failure.
" The Data Centre facility has regular inspections undertaken. The standard of housekeeping must be maintained to a high level so these inspections are passed. Each technician has a joint responsibility for all tidying.
" Ensure all communication with customers and Rackers alike is maintained to a high standard (EOTR)
" Each server platform variant has a 'time to delivery' SLA associated with it. These must be met, with an aim to exceed them where possible.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
" KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of PC and Server hardware. Basic knowledge of Window/Unix operating systems..
" SUPERVISION: Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Self starter.
" SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Previous working experience building and repairing PCs and Servers. Previous experience administrating Windows or Unix based operating systems. Windows/Unix/Networking technical certification desirable. Exhibits good communication and grammatical skills. Previous experience in a customer service oriented position preferred. Must exhibit a fanatical customer service attitude. Due to the nature of the position, must be able to lift 50 lbs over head. Due to the 24x7 operations of the facility, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc. An inherent flair to go 'above and beyond'. Hardworking and copes well under high pressure. Basic time management and organisational skills.
