Third Line Support Engineer
Reporting to the Third Line Team Leader, this is a hands-on engineering position supporting various data products from Direct Internet connectivity through to MPLS VPN.
We are looking for a technically competent individual who has experience of supporting complex voice and data networks. The role involves managing in-life service requests and incidents, detailing and implementing customer requested changes and acting as an escalation for both First and Second line support teams. This role is customer facing.
The successful candidate will be someone who has experience of managing bespoke WAN solutions and who can communicate at both a technical and management level through telephone calls, face-to-face meetings and email.
You will be expected to be available for ‘out-of-hours’ support and be part of the ‘on-call’ rota.
Location – Manchester
Salary Range 25-35K Dependent on Experience + on-call and overtime payments
Qualifications/Skill Required
Applicants will typically be qualified to degree level in an engineering or related technical discipline and at least 3 years experience in a technical customer facing role in an ISP/Telecommunications environment. An essential requirement will be working at a Cisco CCNP level (Although the certification is not essential (Candidates will be asked to demonstrate this during an interview process)
Essential
• Highly IP literate
• Experience with Cisco technologies
• Proven experience in SLA driven 3rd line support role
• Routing protocols, internal and external, specifically BGP with a clear understanding of how the Internet is structured in terms of peering and transit relationships
• Practical experience of supporting and troubleshooting MPLS VPN and complex WAN solution in a Cisco environment, good understanding of MP-BGP, VRF’s
• Sound experience of supporting xDSL variants, Fibre, EFM and GEA Ethernet and
• Confident in use of network analysis and packet-sniffing tools
• Configuring, deploying and troubleshooting QoS enabled networks to support converged data and voice networks
• Advanced knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls
• Good understanding of networking security concepts backed up by practical firewall experience (Palo Alto networks, Fortinet, WatchGuard, Cisco ASA)
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Experience in delivering multi-site projects (network/Cisco preferred)
Desirable
• Experience of Fortinet/Smoothwall firewalls
• Cisco Service Provider Qualification (CCNA-SP, CCNP-SP)
• Cisco Qualification CCNA, CCNP
• Experience of implementing wireless solutions, for example Meraki
• ITIL Foundation
