As announced in September 2008, we are developing an entirely new security course that aligns with the new Cisco CCNA Security certification. This new course, named CCNA Security, is being designed to help Networking Academy students develop a comprehensive understanding of network security concepts, gain knowledge and skills needed to earn the CCNA Security certification and become entry-level security specialists.

The new CCNA Security course will not be a replacement for the current Network Security courses (NS1 and NS2). The Network Security courses were moved to unsupported status on September 25, 2008, and end-of-life plans will be communicated in the future as they are defined.

We recently completed the planning steps of our product development process and an initial design of the CCNA Security course. Below are additional details and projected course release dates that we can share based on our current development progress.

Course Details

The new CCNA Security course will be:

· One semester (70-hr) course format for students with minimum CCNA level knowledge

· Include hands-on labs, Packet Tracer activities, chapter exams, and 1 final exam

· Leverage the same topology as the CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration curricula

· Delivered in the same Graphical User Interface (GUI) as the CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration curricula

· Available in English only, no translated versions are planned

To help academies with their planning process, a preliminary Scope and Sequence document for CCNA Security course will be provided in December 2008. This document will provide more detailed information about the objectives of each chapter and topics that are covered in the course.

Availability

Based on requests we’ve received to provide course content as early as possible so academies
have time to prepare to teach the course, we are planning to provide a Beta version of the CCNA
Security course in April 2009. The CCNA Security Beta course will be provided in April 2009 to
academies to use for instructor training and preview purposes. It will include all the course
elements except Packet Tracer activities and assessments.

The global, generally available (GA) release of CCNA Security course is scheduled for July 2009 when instructors can start offering student classes.

Please review the CCNA Security FAQ for more information. If you have additional questions, please contact your local Networking Academy representative for assistance.
